Mass. state primaries turnout expected to ‘far exceed’ previous comparable elections
Boston Herald reports projected record participation in September 6 primary
Early voting numbers indicate strong interest
Massachusetts voters are expected to turn out in record numbers for the state's primary election on September 6, according to the Boston Herald. Early voting data suggests that participation could "far exceed" previous comparable elections.
As of August 29, more than 700,000 people had already cast their ballots, surpassing the total number of early votes cast in the 2018 primary election.
Several factors are likely contributing to the expected high turnout, including competitive races for governor and attorney general, as well as increased interest in voting following the 2020 presidential election.
"There is a lot of excitement and energy around this primary election," said Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin. "We are encouraging all eligible voters to make their voices heard."
Voters can check their registration status and find their polling place on the website of the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
Early voting will continue until September 2, and voters can cast their ballots at any early voting location in their county.
On Election Day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
